Writing is a challenging skill for many of students and trying to combine writing development with new technologies is something that not all teachers feel confident with. In this interesting article, Karolina Jekielek, investigates different ways to motivate writing in class using ICT and provides suggestions for clear and easy to carry out activities for class.

Writing does not constitute digital natives' natural environment as opposed to typing. Writing in the form which we know is boring and most importantly not engaging. Thirdly, the majority of teachers teach writing in an old-fashioned style, which seems perfectly fine to us, but is perceived as tiresome by students. Therefore, I present a few ways to make the students engage either by the means of interesting websites, pictures or collective writing techniques. However, the main purpose of the article is to show how the technology has changed writing and brough about new forms of speaking.

5. Melinda in the Forest.

Melinda in the Forest is a short story about a girl and her Granny who go to the forest and learn about the animals. Granny teaches Melinda to respect the animals and to be good for plants too. The story is written in simple English so as to make the story easy for children and foreigners who learn English.

‘Squirrels like the forest. They live in a forest, but you live in a house. You can’t live in the forest, but I have an idea. We can live in a forest for a short time,’ Granny says.

‘What?’ Melinda asks.

‘Yes, I have a tent. We can go on Friday, we can go with your friend and we sleep in the forest, what do you think?’

‘Wow!’ says Melinda, ‘That’s great!’
